What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox is a brand name from the company Allergan. Dysport is a brand name from the company Galderma. Both are neuromuscular blocking agents, made from botulinum toxin type A, which is a purified protein at its most broken down source. Botox and Dysport are injected in the same way, and have the same cost per unit. Botox takes 10-14 days to see the full effect and lasts 3-4 months, whereas Dysport can take 3-5 days to see improvement and lasts 4-5 months. Not sure which is right for you? Our licensed medical professionals will help determine which product can provide a more natural look.

What areas can be treated with Botox or Dysport?

Neuromuscular blocking agents such as Botox or Dysport can be used to address facial lines and wrinkles, including in the forehead, between the eyebrows, around the eyes, chin, and even neck bands. Botox and Dysport work by relaxing the treated muscles and decreasing their movement to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles.

What does a Botox or Dysport appointment entail?

At your first appointment, we will do a full-face assessment and discuss your specific concerns. We will educate you on how many units you may need for treatment, discuss cost, and can then inject you that same day if you wish to go ahead with treatment. This appointment usually takes about thirty minutes. When you leave your appointment, you should not look any different. Most people do not bruise (but it is a possibility), but you may have a few “mosquito bite” looking sites that will go away in about 30 minutes. It takes 7-10 days to see the full effect of Botox/Dysport.

If you are a first-time client, we’ll have you come back into the office after 2 weeks to see how well your Botox or Dysport looks, and address any questions or concerns that you may have.

What should I do to prepare for a Botox or Dysport treatment?

Before your treatment, it is best to try to avoid alcohol, and not take NSAIDS before being treated, due to the risk of increased bruising. It is best practice to be hydrated, and possibly eat a little food before your appointment. These are just recommendations and not “must do’s” before your appointment!

What do I need to do after a Botox or Dysport treatment?

After treatment, there are not many rules! We do not want you to lay flat, do any heavy lifting, or bend over with your head down for four hours. We recommend not working out for 24 hours after treatment. Botox and Dysport results usually last 3-4 months, and your facial movements will return back to baseline when it wears off. We recommend waiting at least 12 weeks between each treatment so that you do not become immune to botulinum toxin type A (Botox/Dysport) or the carrier proteins that are attached to the molecule, as this can reduce the efficacy of the treatment. If you feel like your Botox or Dysport is wearing off quicker than 12 weeks, we may need to increase your dose at the next treatment.

Can I earn rewards on my Botox or Dysport treatments?

ALLE is a free reward program made by the makers of Botox, which rewards you, the patient, for being injected with Botox and/or Juvederm fillers. You also receive “points,” which then turn into a dollar amount, on Skin Medica facial products, Latisse, a Diamond Glow facial, and few other services.

ASPIRE is Galderma’s free reward program that benefits the patients for using Dysport or Galderma selection of fillers. Both of these reward programs can be downloaded on your phone with a free APP, and it is free to sign up! If you are unsure which one you will be using, we can help you set it up in-office.

Wave goodbye to pesky lines.
