FAQ's

What's the difference between Botox, Dysport?

Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify are all injectable neuromodulators used primarily to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily paralyzing muscles. While they work in similar ways, there are key differences in formulation, onset time, duration, and other properties.

Our aesthetic injectors can discuss which product would be best for you!

How does it actually work?

Botox and Dysport are neuromuscular blocking agents, which means they cause paralysis of the injected muscle by preventing the release of acetylcholine from motor nerve terminals. The muscle strengthens again as the nerves regenerate.

What will my first appointment be like?

At your first appointment, our aesthetic injectors will do a full-face assessment and discuss your areas of concern. The provider will discuss how many units per treatment area are needed and the overall cost of treatment before injecting.

Does it hurt?

The needle is extremely small so it feels like nothing more than a pin prick, or a bee sting.

When will I see results?

Botox usually takes 7-10 days to see full result, while Dysport seems to kick in a little sooner at 4-7 days. You should give both types of neuromodulator two weeks before scheduling a “touch up”.

How long do results last?

Results typically last 3–4 months.

Any side effects I should know about?

There is always a possibility of bruising when needles puncture the skin, but any bruising is usually very small or none at all.

Occasionally, patients have a headache after injection; you can take Tylenol for this!

Undesired impairment of muscle function may also occur, but is usually associated with inappropriate dosage. -- We use a “less is more” approach at LUMI Aesthetics; we can always add a few more if needed!

Is there anything I shouldn't do after getting Botox/Dysport?

We advise all patients to not lay flat, bend over with head down, lift heavy objects, or strain for 4 hours. We recommend not exercising for 24 hours.

Will I get the same number of units of Botox/Dysport at each appointment?

That is a tough question. LUMI Aesthetics always treats by assessing your muscle movement at each visit. -- Sometimes the movement can be minimal, so you may need the same number of units. Less may be used if you have been consistently treated with neuromodulator every 3-4 months.

Can you get Botox/Dysport and filler at the same appointment?

Yes, you can be treated with neuromodulators and fillers at the same visit. Just make sure to notify our Aesthetic Liaison when booking your appointment so that we have enough time to do both!

What if I don't get Botox/Dysport every 3 months?

Your muscle movement will return to your baseline and you could start to notice the presence of dynamic wrinkles again.

Will my face look unnatural?

We strive for a very natural look at LUMI Aesthetics. We believe that you look like you and prevent wrinkles at the same time!

I'm pregnant or breastfeeding, can I be treated with Botox/Dysport?

Botox and Dysport injections should not be used in pregnancy or when breastfeeding.
